A Florida motor vehicle/boat bill of sale (Form HSMV 82050) documents the terms of a vehicle or vessel transaction between a buyer and seller. The document stipulates the purchase price and the condition of the motorized vehicle/vessel. The new owner must present a bill of sale upon registering and titling the vehicle/vessel under their name with the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV).

Registering a Vehicle
Vehicles transferred from another state must be registered with the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) within fifteen (15) days of the vehicle owner establishing residency. Vehicle registrations expire once every one or two years, depending on whether the owner renews for a 12- or 24-month period. Renewing a registration can be done online through FLHSMV’s GoRenew service or in person at one of the many statewide motor vehicle service centers.

- Bill of Sale (Form HSMV 82050);
- Vehicle Identification Number and Odometer Verification (Form HSMV 82042);
- Original Certificate of Title (if lost or damaged, use the Application for Certificate of Title);
- Valid Florida Driver’s License

- Proof of Insurance with minimum requirements:[2]
- $10,000 of no-fault or personal injury protection (PIP) insurance;
- $10,000 of property damage liability (PDL) insurance;
- Motor Vehicle Power of Attorney, if an agent shall represent the vehicle owner in titling or registering matters.
Registering a Boat
A purchaser must register their newly-acquired vessel with the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) within thirty (30) days. Registrations expire every one or two years, similar to motor vehicles. Renewing a vessel’s registration can be accomplished online through FLHSMV’s GoRenew service or in person at a nearby County Tax Collector’s Office.
