A Minnesota rent increase notice is a notice given by a landlord to a tenant to inform them of a rent increase. For month-to-month tenants, this notice must be given at least one full rental period in advance. For example, if rent is paid on the first day of each month, notice must be given before the first day of the final month before the rent is increased.

Laws

  • Notice Period: One full rental period[1]
    • Notice of a rent increase cannot be shorter than the time period provided in the lease (if applicable) for the tenant to give notice of their intent to vacate.[2]
  • Rent Control: State law prohibits local governments from enacting rent control on private property, unless measures are adopted in a general election.[3]
