The California General Bill of Sale is a legal document that will offer proof that an item(s) has been purchased or a trade has been negotiated and therefore, the buyer is legally and rightfullt entitled to take possession of the item(s). This document will require the witness of a notary public as signatures are being provided. Once the seller(s) and buyer(s) are before a notary, complete the document as follows:
How To Write
Step 1 – Seller and Buyer Information – Both seller and buyer must provide the following information into the lines provided:
- The Seller –
- Full name
- Driver’s license number
- Address
- City
- State
- The Buyer –
- Full Name
- Driver’s license number
- Address
- City
- State
Step 2 – Property Details – Provide a description of the property being sold and purchased on the line provided. If more room is required, add a sheet that you may attach to this form:
- Description
- Serial Number (SN) (If any)
Step 3 – Trade/Purchase Price – Check one of the boxes as appropriate and provide a description if required. Select from the following on the form:
- If you select the first box, enter the word description of the cost of the item(s)
- AND
- Enter a number description of the cost of the item(s)
- Enter the date of the sale as it should be known into the line provided in mm/dd/yyyy format
- If there is a final date to pay for the item(s) state that date in the line provided
- Other – If some other negotiations have been accepted by both parties, describe them on the line provided
- If you select the next box, you are stating that you’re giving the stated item(s) as a gift
- Should you select the last box on the page, you have agreed to a trade. Describe the trade in the line provided, if more room is required, add a sheet and attach to this form.
Step 4- Seller’s Disclosure –
- The seller must read the information in this section.
- If there are defects, the seller must state them on the lines provided
- Seller must then sign on the signature line
Step 5 – Signatures – Prior to signing this document, you must retain the services of a notary. Once all parties involved are present before the notary
- Both parties must read the paragraph
- Date the document in dd/mm/yyyy format
- The seller must provide their signature and printed name
- The buyer must provide their signature and printed name
- The witness must sign and print their name
Step 6 – Notarization – This section will be completed by the notary
- Once completed, the notary will affix their state seal
Once the document is complete make copies for record keeping and give the original copy to the byer.
