Missouri Boat Bill of Sale Form

The Missouri Boat Bill of Sale is a legal document that is used between a seller and a buyer to prove the legal sale and purchase of a vessel in the state of Missouri. The document provides information regarding the seller and the buyer as well as various articles of information about the vehicle and the transaction. This document will require notarization.

Register a Boat in Missouri

If you’ve purchased a boat in the state of Missouri, you must have it documented within 60 days to avoid penalties and additional costs. You may acquire a temporary registration so that you may use your boat on Missouri waterways until registration is complete. On the 31st day, you will be in violation.

Where to Register – You may register your vessel/boat, by gathering all of the appropriate documentation and taking it to your local Department of Revenue (DOR)

How to Write

Step 1 – Seller and Buyer Information – Each party must provide the following:

  • The Seller – 
  • Name
  • Driver’s License Number
  • Physical Address
  • City
  • State
  • AND
  • The Buyer –
  • Name
  • Driver’s License Number
  • Physical Address
  • City
  • State

Step 2 – Vessel Detail – Enter the required information with regard to the vessel/boat as follows:

  • Make
  • Length
  • Year (the vessel was built)
  • Hull ID Number
  • Registration ID Number
  • Odometer Reading (hours, knots, miles, kilometers)
  • Title Number
  • Will a Trailer be included with the sale? (check yes or no)
  • If Yes – Enter the Make and Year
  • Will an Outboard Motor be included with the sale? (check yes or no)
  • If Yes – Enter the Make, Year and Horsepower (HP)

Step 3 – Price – Check only the boxes that apply. Provide any additional needed information:

  • Select the first box if the seller has agreed only to monetary payment – Enter the worded dollar amount
  • Enter the dollar amount in numbers
  • Provide an agreed date in which payment will be made in mm/dd/yyyy format
  • Enter the date in which this document will be known as, in mm/dd/yyyy format
  • In the event the parties have agreed that payment will be made at a later date, enter the date in mm/dd/yyyy format
  • Other – If different arrangements have been agreed upon by the parties, enter the description of the agreement (if extra room is needed add a sheet and attach it to the form
  • Check the box if the vessel/boat is a gift to the buyer
  • Check the last box if this will be a direct trade. Provide a brief description as to the conditions of the trade

Step 4 – Seller’s Disclosure – The seller must carefully read the statements in this section:

  • If,there are any known defects with regard to the vessel/boat, the seller must disclose the defects in this section –
  • enter a description into the lines provided
  • If all signatories are present before a notary, the seller will provide their signature in agreement on the “Seller’s Signature” line

Step 5 – Signatures – If all signing parties are collectively before a notary public and have been identified by the notary, provide the following:

  • The Seller –
  • Signature
  • Print Name
  • AND
  • The Buyer –
  • Signature
  • Print Name
  • AND
  • The Witness –
  • Signature
  • Print Name

Step 6 – Once the notary public has witnessed all of the signatures, he/she will complete the remainder of the form as required  and affix their state seal to complete the authentication of the document

  • Make copies to provide to all signatories for their records
  • Supply the buyer with an original copy
