Odometer Disclosure Statement (MVR-180) – This form is required as well if the vehicle is less than twenty (20) years old and sixteen-thousand (16,000) pounds.
Registering a Vehicle
Vehicle owners have 60 days from the date of purchase to register their new vehicles.[1] Vehicle registrations have to be renewed annually.[2] Owners can renew online, by mail, or at an NCDMV license plate agency.

Owners can register their vehicles at any local license plate agency.
Required Documents
- Bill of Sale;
- Title Application (Form MVR-1);
- Odometer Disclosure Statement (MVR-180);
- Certificate of Title (apply for a replacement title directly with the DMV);
- Valid driver’s license;
- North Carolina Motor Vehicle Power of Attorney is required if the owner designates another individual to register the vehicle for them;
- Registration Fees; and
- Proof of Insurance with Minimum Requirements:[3]
- $25,000 for property damage;
- $30,000 for bodily injury to one person; and
- $60,000 for bodily injury to two or more people.
