North Dakota Boat Bill of Sale Form

The North Dakota Boat Bill of Sale is considered a legal document in North Dakota that shows proof that a vessel has been legally sold and purchased. The document will provide information about the seller and buyer as well, it will show change of ownership and needed identifying factors pertaining to the vessel. This form will require notarization.

Register a Boat in North Dakota

If you are a resident in the state of North Dakota, your vessel/boat must be registered with the state in order to operate it in ND waterways. When you do register, you will also receive a 10-day temporary permit for operation. If you are a visitor for less than 60 days consecutively, you are not required to register until day 61.

Where to Register – In the state of ND, you have the option of Registering your boat Online or you may register in person with the North Dakota Game and Fish Department, nearest to your location.

Step 1 – Seller and Buyer Information – Seller and buyer must provide the following required information:

  • The Seller – 
  • Name
  • Driver’s License Number
  • Physical Address
  • City
  • State
  • AND
  • The Buyer –
  • Name
  • Driver’s License Number
  • Physical Address
  • City
  • State

Step 2 – Vessel Detail – Provide all required information with regard to the vessel/boat as follows:

  • Make
  • Length
  • Year (the vessel was built)
  • Hull ID Number
  • Registration ID Number
  • Odometer Reading (hours)
  • Title Number
  • Will a Trailer be included with the sale? (check yes or no)
  • If Yes – Enter the Make and Year
  • Will an Outboard Motor be included with the sale? (check yes or no)
  • If Yes – Enter the Make, Year and Horsepower (HP)

Step 3 – Purchase Price – Check all applicable boxes and provide any added required information:

  • Check the box if the seller will only accept monetary payment – Enter the worded dollar amount
  • Enter the dollar amount in numbers
  • Enter any date that the parties have agreed that payment will be due, in mm/dd/yyyy format
  • Enter the date in which this document will be known as agreed by the parties, in mm/dd/yyyy format
  • Should the parties agree that payment may be made at a later date, enter the agreed date, in mm/dd/yyyy format
  • Other – If different arrangements have been agreed upon by the parties, enter a brief summation of the agreement
  • Check this box if the boat is being provided as a gift
  • Check the last box if this will be a direct trade has been agreed upon. Enter a brief description as to the conditions

Step 4 – Seller’s Disclosure – The seller should carefully read the statements in this section:

  • If there are any known defects, enter a description into the lines provided
  • If the seller is in agreement with the statements and has provided any defects information, he or she may proceed by entering a seller’s signature

Step 5 – Signatures – If all signing parties are before the notary public, each signing party must respectively provide the following:

  • The Seller –
  • Signature
  • Print Name
  • AND
  • The Buyer –
  • Signature
  • Print Name
  • AND
  • The Witness –
  • Signature
  • Print Name

Step 6 – Once the notary public has witnessed all of the signatures, the notary will complete the remainder of the form as required and will then affix their state seal.

  • Make copies to provide to all signatories for their records
  • Provide the original to the purchaser
