A New Hampshire motor vehicle bill of sale is an official document recording the ownership transfer of a vehicle. It must be signed by the seller and can be used by the buyer to register the vehicle with the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
In accordance with NH law (RSA 261:148 (III)), a vehicle bill of sale must include:
- Make;
- Model;
- Vehicle identification number;
- Model year;
- Year of manufacture;
- Type of body; and
- Number (#) of cylinders.
- Name and address of purchaser; and
- Signature and address of seller.
Signing Requirements – According to law, the seller is only required to sign. Although, it is recommended both the buyer and seller authorize the document.

Registering a Vehicle:
Vehicle owners have 60 days from the date of purchase or moving to register their vehicle with the DMV. Registrations have to be renewed annually. Owners can renew at their local city clerk’s office.

Required Documents
- Bill of Sale;
- Odometer Disclosure Statement (Form TDMV 12);
- Certificate of Title (duplicate titles can be obtained by applying through the New Hampshire DMV);
- Valid driver’s license;
- New Hampshire Motor Vehicle Power of Attorney is needed if someone other than the owner is registering the vehicle for them;
- City/Town Registration Fees;
- State Registration Fees; and
- New Hampshire has no statute requiring Proof of Insurance.
