A New Hampshire motor vehicle bill of sale is an official document recording the ownership transfer of a vehicle. It must be signed by the seller and can be used by the buyer to register the vehicle with the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
A vehicle bill of sale must include:[1]
- Make;
- Model;
- Vehicle identification number;
- Model year;
- Year of manufacture;
- Type of body; and
- Number (#) of cylinders.
- Name and address of purchaser; and
- Signature and address of seller.
Signing Requirements – According to law, the seller is only required to sign. Although, it is recommended both the buyer and seller authorize the document.

Registering a Vehicle:
Vehicle owners have 60 days from the date of purchase or moving to register their vehicle with the DMV.[2] Registrations have to be renewed annually. Owners can renew at their local city clerk’s office.

Required Documents
- Bill of Sale;
- Odometer Disclosure Statement (Form TDMV 12);
- Certificate of Title (duplicate titles can be obtained by applying through the New Hampshire DMV);
- Valid driver’s license;
- New Hampshire Motor Vehicle Power of Attorney is needed if someone other than the owner is registering the vehicle for them;
- City/Town Registration Fees;
- State Registration Fees; and
- New Hampshire has no statute requiring Proof of Insurance.
