The New Mexico General Bill of Sale is a legal document that will provide proof that a legal sale and purchase has been executed between two private parties, generally for personal items. How to Write

Step 1 – Seller and Buyer Information – Seller and purchaser must enter the following:

  • The Seller –
  • Name
  • Driver’s License Number
  • Physical Address
  • City
  • State
  • AND
  • The Buyer –
  • Name
  • Driver’s License Number
  • Physical Address
  • City
  • State

Step 2 – Property Details – Enter any information with regard to the item(s):

  • Description
  • Serial Number (SN) (if applicable)

Step 3 – Trade/Purchase Price – Check and of the boxes that apply. Enter any additional information if needed:

  • Checking this box indicated the seller only wishes to accept monetary payment– Enter the dollar amount in words
  • Enter the dollar amount in numbers
  • Select and enter a date in which the parties have agreed payment for the item(s) must be paid, in mm/dd/yyyy format
  • Enter the selected date in which the parties agree the document will be known as, in mm/dd/yyyy format
  • Check this box if the parties agree to make payment due at a later date, enter the date – mm/dd/yyyy format
  • Other –If changes have been agreed to between the parties. Provide a description of the terms
  • Select the box if the item(s) are intended as a gift
  • The last box in this section will address a direct trade. Enter a description of the conditions of the trade

Step 4 – Seller’s Disclosure – Seller must read the statements and disclose any known defects

  • Once the statements have been reviewed and defects (if any) have been disclosed, the seller should proceed to provide signature in the “seller’s signature” line

Step 5 – Signatures – If all parties are present before a notary public, each must provide the following:

  • The Seller –
  • Signature
  • Printed Name
  • AND
  • The Buyer –
  • Signature
  • Printed Name
  • AND
  • The Witness – 
  • Signature
  • Printed Name

Step 6 – Notarization – The notary will identify the signatories and witness signatures. The notary will then complete the remaining portion of the document and provide an affixed seal for authentication

  • Make copies of the completed document
  • Give the original copy to the buyer
