The Texas General Bill of Sale is a form that is most generally used by two private parties to prove the sale, purchase and change of ownership of personal property. Some of the information provided on the form will be regarding the seller, buyer and identifying information about the item(s) sold . This form will require notarization.

How to Write

Step 1 – Seller and Buyer Information – Both parties must enter their respective information into the form:

  • The Seller –
  • Name
  • Driver’s License Number
  • Physical Address
  • City
  • State
  • AND
  • The Buyer –
  • Name
  • Driver’s License Number
  • Physical Address
  • City
  • State

Step 2 – Property Details – Enter any needed details of the property:

  • Details
  • Serial Number (SN) (if any)

Step 3 – Trade/Purchase Price – Check any of the applicable boxes. Provide additional information if required:

  • Select the box if the seller will only accept monetary funds as payment – Enter the dollar amount in words
  • Enter the dollar amount in numbers
  • Enter a date to specify when the parties have agreed that payment will be made, in mm/dd/yyyy format
  • Enter a specific date in which the document will be known as in mm/dd/yyyy format
  • If the parties have agreed that payment will be made at a later time/date, enter a date, in mm/dd/yyyy format
  • Other – If different agreements have been made by the parties, enter the details
  • Check this box if the item(s) are a gift to be given to the recipient
  • The last boxwill address a direct trade. Describe the terms

Step 4 – Seller’s Disclosure – The seller must read the statements and enter any known defects

  • Once the seller has read the statements and entered any possible defects, seller may then provide signature

Step 5 – Signatures – If all parties are present before a notary, all parties must enter the following information:

  • The Seller –
  • Signature
  • Printed Name
  • AND
  • The Buyer –
  • Signature
  • Printed Name
  • AND
  • The Witness – 
  • Signature
  • Printed Name

Step 6 – Notarization – Once the notary has witnessed all signatures, she or he will then complete the form, to authenticate by affixing the state seal.

  • Make copies of the completed document
  • Give the original copy to the buyer
