The consultant is usually brought in to help with the development and management of the business. For example, if a small business wants to strategize its marketing efforts, it may hire a consultant with experience in the industry to help make decisions. The consultant is commonly paid by the hour and may also be incentivized by payment of profits or ownership if certain goals are met.
