A Maryland independent contractor agreement is a document negotiated and signed by an individual/business (hiring entity) and a contractor (hired entity). This document outlines the scope and nature of the business relationship between the two parties, specifically the exchange of services for compensation. An independent contractor agreement includes provisions that define the relationship as a temporary, contract-based arrangement as opposed to an employer/employee relationship. For example, a contractor will be responsible for taxes, workers’ compensation, liability insurance, and any other workers/subcontractors used to complete the services, tasks which normally fall under the employer’s umbrella of responsibility.
