Common Types of Auto Repair

  • Regular maintenance: This includes oil changes, tire rotation and alignment, wheel balancing, brake fluid flush, transmission fluid change, and more.
  • Parts replacement: This includes headlight and taillight replacement, brake pad and rotor replacement, tire replacement, starter replacement, battery replacement, catalytic converter replacement, and more.
  • Repairs: This includes engine repair, suspension repair, muffler and exhaust repair, A/C repair, power window and lock repairs, and more.

What to Include (4)

The following information must be included in the auto repair contract. Additional provisions may include a late fee, whether a retainer is required, terms in the event of a breach of contract, and more.

1. Both parties’ names and addresses

Provide the full name of the client and the name of the body shop or the individual who is providing the repair service. Most states also require a mailing address to be provided for each party for a contract to be legally enforceable.

2. Description of services

Provide details of the repair services that will be provided. This can be an itemized list of services with the corresponding cost of parts and service fee.

3. Payment amount

Provide the total payment amount that the client must pay for the services provided. It is most common to charge a flat fee for the services, but the mechanic may also charge an hourly fee.

4. Payment schedule

Include details of when the payment will be due. Most commonly, the overdue balance must be paid in full at the conclusion of the services. However, the mechanic may allow the client to make payments in installments.
