A material handler, also known as a "Warehouse Associate" is a person who ships, stores, and receives goods and inventory while tracking and documenting its flow and location. Depending on the job and the extent of their training, a material handler may be responsible for hazardous or sensitive items.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Add and remove products from trucks, rail cars, etc. for placement;
  • Verify accuracy of order manifests;
  • Document inventory for temporary storage;
  • Move materials within warehouse or other storage area;
  • Operate machinery, including forklifts and freight elevators;
  • Input material transit data;
  • Follow all relevant safety regulations; and
  • Communicate with product vendors to address logistics issues.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent;
  • Physical endurance (standing, walking, lifting);
  • Ability to work nonstandard hours;
  • Detail-oriented and capable of following extensive instructions;
  • Inclination toward working as part of a team; and
  • Familiarity with computers and basic data-entry software.
