Financial Powers
A financial power of attorney is canceled if:[1]
- The principal dies;
- The principal becomes incapacitated and the power of attorney is not durable;
- The principal revokes the power of attorney;
- The power of attorney has an end date;
- The purpose of the power of attorney is completed; or
- The agent resigns, becomes incapacitated, or dies, and the POA does not provide a successor agent.
Medical Powers
A power of attorney for health care can be revoked by the principal at any time by:[2]
- Physically destroying the document;
- Executing a written statement revoking the POA;
- Verbally expressing the intent to revoke in the presence of two witnesses; or
- Executing a new power of attorney for healthcare.
