The Ohio Roommate Agreement roommate agreement is a type of contract that is agreed upon and written between the residents/roommates residing together in a rental unit. The agreement will provide an outline of the terms and conditions as well as the responsibilities agreed upon by each one of the residents. Roommate agreements may also referred to as a roommate contract. Each resident should carefully review all of the agreement to be certain that they understand when payments are due, to whom they will make payments, responsibilities and care of the unit among other rules established among the roommates.

How To Write

Step 1 – Begin my downloading the document and entering the address of the rental unit

  • Enter the term of the lease by entering the beginning date in mm/dd/yyyy format
  • Enter the ending date of the lease in mm/dd/yyyy format

Step 2 – In the table provided provide the following information pertaining to each roommate:

  • Name of roommate
  • Rent amount agreed to
  • Deposit amount
  • Bedroom for occupancy
  • If any changes are made between roommates, an amendment should be made on this document or to another sheet that is added to the document

Step 3 – Security Deposit –

  • Security deposits are listed in the table provided and refunds will be divided according to the percentages

Step 4 – Utility Bills – Enter the following:

  • Enter the name of the person in which each utility is registered
  • The bill will be divided according to each roommate’s consumption of each utility the roommates are responsible for – list additional consumption devices
  • Enter the name of a person who will be responsible for paying late charges

Step 5 – Phone Bills –

  • Enter the name of the person who’s name will be on the telephone bill, if any
  • Enter the information with regard to the division of the telephone bill (local)
  • Any long distance charges will be paid by the person who makes long distance call that are charged to the house number
  • Enter the name of the person who will pay the late charges

Step 6 – Cable and Internet Charges –

  • Check whether the premises will have cable services
  • If there will be cable services, enter the name of the person who will carry the bill in their name
  • The cable bill will be divided according to how many people will be in the unit
  • Enter the name of the person who will be responsible for paying any cable late charges
  • All of the above will apply also to High Speed Internet Services

Step 7 – Check the box indicating whether or not subletting is allowed

Step 8 – Guests

  • All roommates must read and agree to this section

Step 9 – Quiet Hours –

  • List the hours that are considered quiet hours for all tenants

Step 10 – Pets –

  • Enter the pets that will be permitted
  • Enter the name of the person responsible for pets

Step 11 – Smoking –

  • Check the box indicating whether or not smoking will be allowed inside of the premises

Step 12 – Household Duties –

  • Enter the list of household duties and how chores shall be divided

Step 13 – Other Terms –

  • List other terms and condtions

Step 14 – Signatures -Each roommate must enter the following:

  • Signature
  • Date of Signature
