Idaho Boat Bill of Sale

An Idaho boat bill of sale records all details of a vessel purchase and sale between a seller and buyer. It contains the vessel's identification, its condition at the time of sale, and the sale price. The new owner of the vessel must present a bill of sale to the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation (IDPR) to obtain a certificate of registration.

Registering a Boat

All motorized vessels and sailboats, whether power-driven or under sail, must be registered with the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation (IDPR) before being operated on public waters. All registrations are valid through one calendar year, expiring on December 31.

Renewing can be done online via the IDPR’s Online Registration System, by mail, or in person at authorized boat registration vendors or nearby county assessor locations.

Note: A private seller must report the transaction to the IDPR within 15 days from the sale date.

Where to Register

Newly acquired vessels must be registered in person with the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation (IDPR) at a participating boat registration vendor, the county assessor’s office, or a Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) office.
