The Idaho Vehicle Bill of Sale ITD 3738 is a legal document to be used to provide proof of sale and purchase of a motor vehicle in the state of Idaho. Register a Motor Vehicle in Idaho

A vehicle in the state of Idaho must be titled prior to registration which should be done immediately. The titling and registration may be done consecutively on the same day, with titling completed first and then registration.

Where to Register – If you would like to get your vehicle titled and registered, locate your nearest Idaho Transportation Department. There are offices around the state. Take all of your required documentation to one of the locations. You must appear in person.

Needed to Register – When you’re prepared to register your vehicle in Idaho you will need to have all of your documents gathered and with you when you go to register your vehicle:

  • You will need a completed Application for Certificate of Title
  • For out of state vehicles being registered for the first time in the state, you will need a completed VIN Inspection
  • A bill of sale (serves also as proof of ownership)
  • A picture ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
  • A title
  • Proof of Auto Insurance that will meet the Idaho minimums
  • Be prepared to pay all required fees at the time of registration

Step 3 – Odometer Reading (no 10th’s of a mile, round up or down) – Check the applicable box with regard to the odometer reading for this vehicle. Select from the following:

  • Exempt
  • Not Actual
  • No Odometer
  • Exceeds Mechanical Limits

Step 4 – Seller’s Information – Complete the boxes provided:

  • Seller’s Full and Legal, Printed Name
  • Physical Address
  • City
  • State
  • Zip Code
  • Day Phone
  • True Selling Price
  • Sale Date

Step 5 – Buyer’s Information – Enter the following information into the boxes provided:

  • Buyer’s Full and Legal, Printed Name
  • Physical Address
  • City
  • State
  • Zip Code
  • Day Phone
  • True Selling Price

Step 6 – Lien Holder Information (if any) – If there is a Lien Holder, enter the following information:

  • New Lien Holder Name or “None” (if the vehicle is paid for in full)
  • Physical Address
  • City
  • State
  • Zip Code

Step 7 – Seller (Disclosure) –

  • The seller must carefully read the “Seller” information. If the seller agrees, they must provide their signature in the “Seller’s Signature” box

Step 8 – Buyer (in agreement) –

  • The buyer must carefully read the information in this section. If in agreement, provide your signature in the “Buyer’s Signature” box

Step 9 – Make copies of the document for record keeping purposes

  • Give the original copy to the buyer
