North Dakota General Bill of Sale Form

The North Dakota General Bill of Sale is a document that is usually utilized between two private parties for the proof of sale and purchase of personal property. The form will provide information pertaining to the seller, buyer and the item(s) being sold and purchased. This form will require a notary public to witness signatures.

How to Write

Step 1 – Seller and Buyer Information – Each party must provide:

  • The Seller –
  • Name
  • Driver’s License Number
  • Physical Address
  • City
  • State
  • AND
  • The Buyer –
  • Name
  • Driver’s License Number
  • Physical Address
  • City
  • State

Step 2 – Property Details – Seller must provide the information as follows:

  • Details/description
  • Serial Number (SN) (if applicable)

Step 3 – Trade/Purchase Price – Check all that apply:

  • If the first box is checked, the seller will be accepting only monetary funds as payment – Enter the dollar amount in words
  • Enter the dollar amount in numbers
  • Enter a specific date as to when the parties have agreed that payment will be made mm/dd/yyyy format
  • Enter a date in which the document will be known as in mm/dd/yyyy format
  • Should the parties agree that payment will be made at a later time, enter a date, in mm/dd/yyyy format
  • Other – If different negotiations have been agreed upon by the parties, provide a brief description of the changes
  • Check this box if no money will be exchanged but the item is intended as a gift
  • Check the last box in this section if this is an agreed even-trade. Enter a brief description of the terms

Step 4 – Seller’s Disclosure – The seller must read the statements and disclose any information regarding any known defects

  • Once the defects (if any) have been disclosed and the seller is now in agreement of all statement, seller may enter their signature

Step 5 – Signatures – If all parties are present before a notary public provide the following respectively:

  • The Seller –
  • Signature
  • Printed Name
  • AND
  • The Buyer –
  • Signature
  • Printed Name
  • AND
  • The Witness – 
  • Signature
  • Printed Name

Step 6 – Notarization – Once the notary has witnessed all signatures, they will then complete the remainder of the form. The state seal will be affixed to the document for authentication.

  • Make copies of the completed document to provide to all who signed, for their records
  • Give the original copy to the buyer
