Laws

Landlords must provide tenants with the security deposit and an itemized list of damages subtracted from the balance (if applicable) within 14 days after the tenancy expires. Deductions are authorized when the tenant vacates without paying rent or is non-compliant with the rental terms. Should the landlord fail to return the deposit and list of deductions within the 14-day period, the tenant may sue for the total sum due plus any applicable legal fees.[1]
