Nebraska Security Deposit Demand Letter

Updated December 02, 2022

A Nebraska security deposit demand letter is a letter sent by a tenant to a landlord who has neglected or refused to refund a security deposit that was paid at the start of a tenancy. In Nebraska, landlords must provide tenants with the security deposit and an itemized list of damages subtracting from the balance (if applicable) within fourteen (14) days after the tenancy expires. Deductions are authorized when the tenant vacates without paying rent or is non-compliant with the rental terms. Should the landlord fail to return the deposit and list of deductions within the fourteen (14) day period, the tenant may sue for the total sum due plus any applicable legal fees.
