A Massachusetts independent contractor agreement is a legal document that establishes the relationship between a contractor and the entity/individual that hired them. Unlike an employee, an independent contractor is not directly under the entity’s employ but is acting in their own right as a business entity. An independent contractor offers a service in exchange for fair compensation, which is negotiated before being drafted in the agreement. Aside from services and compensation provisions, a contractor agreement will include clauses covering licenses, taxes, workers’ compensation, insurance, termination, no-partnership, and other articles that help clarify the relationship between the two parties.
