The Iowa Room Rental (Roommate) Agreement Form is an easy to use tool which roommates, wishing to share the rent and utilities of a property rental, may utilize in an effort to keep the conditions set within it a constant. Thus, during the full life span of this document’s effective period, the terms all the roommates agreed to at the start of their arrangement are considered enforceable by law. This is because this contract will name the parties involved defining each individual’s role then assigning responsibilities legally sound for that role. It will also name the property involved and (as previously mentioned) the start date and termination date of the agreement itself.

Once this contract is signed, it will be effective in its power between the roommates. That is, a property owner is not required to renew or continue allowing any of the roommates unless that landlord has signed a separate lease with an individual (which will define their relationship). Thus, it is important to keep in mind that once the lease between the property owner/landlord and the principal tenant terminates without renewal or continuance all roommates must vacate the premises when the principle tenant does. This is because this agreement is strictly between the participating roommates who have read, comprehended, and signed their names in verification of his/her willing compliance to its terms.
