Vermont Month-to-Month Lease Agreement

A Vermont month-to-month rental agreement is a lease that renews monthly until either the landlord or tenant issues a notice to terminate. Also known as a "tenancy at will," it allows either party to cancel at any time with no specified end date to the lease period.

Laws

  • Minimum Termination Period – 30-day notice for a tenancy of two years of less and 60-day notice for tenancies of more than two years.[1] If the lease is week-to-week, seven days’ notice is sufficient.
  • Increasing Rent – The landlord must provide notice of 60 days before increasing the monthly rent.[2]
