Nevada Vessel Bill of Sale Form

The Nevada Vessel Bill of Sale is a legal document that will prove the legal sale and purchase of a vessel, in the state of Nevada. The document will provide information with regard to the seller, buyer, boat information and change of ownership. This form will require notarization.

Register a Vessel in Nevada

In the state of Nevada, any boat, operating in Nevada waterways, must have a Hull Identification Number visible and must be registered. You do not have to register if your boat is using Nevada waterways if you’re visiting for less than 60 days or if the boat is not motorized.

Where to Register – To register your vessel, you must gather all of your required documents and appear in person at any local Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) Office

Needed to Register – The following documents and information is required to register a vessel in Nevada:

  • You are required to provide a bill of sale to prove ownership of the vessel
  • A receipt proving you’ve paid sales tax (if this is a sale between private parties, no sales tax is necessary)
  • An Original Manufacturer’s Statement of Origin (MSO) – (If you have no Hull ID or MSO, you must have your vessel inspected at your local NDOW location – The Carson City location will not inspect – all of the other locations will.
  • If your boat was purchased in another state, you will need a copy of the previous state’s vessel registration
  • Photo ID
  • Be prepared to pay all application and registration fees at the time of registration

How to Write

Step 1 – Seller and Buyer Information – Parties must enter the following:

  • The Seller – 
  • Name
  • Driver’s License Number
  • Physical Address
  • City
  • State
  • AND
  • The Buyer –
  • Name
  • Driver’s License Number
  • Physical Address
  • City
  • State

Step 2 – Vessel Detail – Enter all required information as follows:

  • Make
  • Length
  • Year (the vessel was built)
  • Hull ID Number
  • Registration ID Number
  • Odometer Reading (hours)
  • Title Number
  • Will a Trailer be included with the sale? (check yes or no)
  • If Yes – Enter the Make and Year
  • Will an Outboard Motor be included with the sale? (check yes or no)
  • If Yes – Enter the Make, Year and Horsepower (HP)

Step 3 – Trade – Select any of the boxes that apply. Provide any additional information if required:

  • Should this box be selected, this would indicate that the seller will only accept monetary payment for the vehicle – Enter the worded dollar amount
  • Enter the dollar amount in numbers
  • Specify the date that the parties have agreed payment for the vehicle will be made in mm/dd/yyyy format
  • Enter the date in which the document will be known as, in mm/dd/yyyy format
  • If payment will be made at a later date then enter the date in mm/dd/yyyy format
  • Other – If different arrangements have been agreed upon by the parties, provide a description of the agreement (if additional room is required add a sheet)
  • Select the box if the vessel/boat is intended as gift to the “buyer”
  • Selection of the last box in this section will indicate a direct trade. Enter a brief description of the conditions of the trade

Step 4 – Seller’s Disclosure – The seller should carefully review all of the statements:

  • If, in fact, there are any known defects with vessel/boat, disclose the defects in the lines provided
  • If all signatories are present before a notary, the seller may proceed by entering their signature in agreement on the “Seller’s Signature” line

Step 5 – Signatures – If all signing parties are present before a notary public, all parties must enter the following:

  • The Seller –
  • Signature
  • Print Name
  • AND
  • The Buyer –
  • Signature
  • Print Name
  • AND
  • The Witness –
  • Signature
  • Print Name

Step 6 – As soon as the notary public has witnessed all of the signatures, he/she will complete the remainder of the form as required and affix their state seal.

  • Make copies to provide to all signatories for their records
  • Give the original to the buyer
