Michigan Security Deposit Demand Letter

A Michigan security deposit demand letter is a letter sent by a tenant to a landlord who has failed to deliver the tenant's security deposit after the lease agreement ends. Tenants must provide landlords with a forwarding address no later than four days after they vacate the dwelling.

Laws

Michigan law states that landlords must mail the deposit to the tenant within 30 days of the lease expiration. In addition to the deposit, the landlord must include a detailed list of any damages resulting in deductions of funds. Landlords who fail to comply with these regulations forfeit their right to claim damages and are liable to pay twice the amount of the security deposit.[1]
