A Missouri security deposit demand letter is a notice informing a landlord that he or she is withholding a tenant’s security deposit and must pay it immediately. When a Missouri tenancy is terminated, the landlord has thirty (30) days to either return the security deposit in full or give the tenant a written list of deductions along with the remaining money owed. Included with the refunded security deposit must be the interest accrued while the deposit was held in a bank or other financial institution. If the landlord neglects to comply with these requirements, the tenant can recover an amount which doubles the initial balance of the deposit.
