An Oklahoma security deposit demand letter is sent by an individual to a landlord who has not returned a security deposit within the required forty-five (45) day period following the termination of a lease. Misuse of a security deposit or the refusal to pay it back is punishable by a term in county jail and by a fine of up to twice the amount of the money owed. The tenant must make a written demand to have the deposit returned within six (6) months after termination of the tenancy. Otherwise, the landlord will be entitled to possession of the full amount.
