Vermont Security Deposit Demand Letter

Updated December 01, 2022

The Vermont security deposit demand letter is a document that a tenant serves on a landlord who has failed to comply with the deadline to return the balance of the tenant’s initial deposit. Landlords are required to return security deposits and/or a list of damages and charges within fourteen (14) days after the tenant has vacated the premises. However, if the rental property was used for a seasonal occupancy or as a secondary residence, the landlord will have sixty (60) days to refund the deposit. In the event that the landlord willfully withholds the money owed, the tenant will be entitled to double the original amount plus attorney fees and other legal costs (if applicable).
