Deadline: The landlord must return the full security deposit (minus any rent due or incurred damages) within 14 days after the tenant has vacated the property. However, if the tenant fails to give proper notice regarding the termination of their lease, the landlord will be given 30 days to refund the deposit.[1]
Penalties: If the landlord does not return the deposit (with an itemized statement of rent/damages) within the allotted time frame, the tenant may recover double the initial amount owed.[2]
