A New Jersey lease termination letter is a document that may be used by either a landlord or a tenant to provide sufficient notice of an intent to terminate a tenancy at a property. Some of the most common notice periods applicable to landlords are listed below.

Laws

  • Delivery: Notice must be delivered in person or by leaving a copy at the tenant’s normal place of residence with a person 14 years or older.[1] If the landlord is unable to deliver a copy to such person, they may affix a copy in a conspicuous place at the residence.[2]
  • Notice Period: 30 days.[3]
  • Penalty for Holdover: State law does not specifically address the penalty for holdover.
